Colleen Marcoux, M.A., RCC, CCC, RP (Qualifying), B.A. Registered Clinical Counsellor | Canadian Certified Counsellor | Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) Couples Therapist | EMDR Therapist | Relationship & Trauma Therapy

Have you ever felt like you and your partner care deeply about each other—but keep getting stuck in the same arguments, emotional distance, or disconnection that feels hard to break? Or maybe things look “fine” on the outside, but inside the relationship there’s tension, loneliness, or a sense that something important is missing?

I work with individuals and couples, offering virtual therapy that is flexible, grounded, and often allows for deeper emotional openness than people expect from online sessions.

One of the most meaningful parts of my work—and life outside of therapy—is that I also work as a wedding officiant, supporting couples as they make lifelong commitments to one another. That experience has given me a deep appreciation for what brings people together, what strengthens connection, and what can sometimes quietly pull them apart over time.

I support those who are feeling stuck in relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, or painful patterns they cannot seem to break. This may look like recurring conflict and communication breakdowns, emotional distance or loneliness, difficulty rebuilding trust after hurt, anxiety, low mood, life transitions, separation, or unresolved past experiences that continue to affect present relationships.

My approach is warm, practical, and focused on helping clients create lasting change, not just temporary relief. I help clients better understand the patterns keeping them stuck, improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and rebuild trust and safety in their relationships. When past experiences or unresolved trauma are contributing to present struggles, I also integrate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process those deeper emotional wounds and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Whether we are working on couples therapy, relationship repair, trauma healing, or personal growth, my goal is to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and connection.

A Bit About Me Outside of therapy, I feel most grounded in quiet, everyday moments at home with my husband, laughing, talking, and simply being together. Those small moments reflect the kind of connection I hope to help clients build in their own relationships: steady, emotionally safe, and meaningful in everyday life.

Have you ever felt like your relationship is becoming harder to navigate, even when both of you care deeply and are trying your best? Maybe you keep getting stuck in the same patterns of miscommunication, emotional distance, conflict, or disconnection and despite your efforts, it feels difficult to reconnect.

Or perhaps you are navigating ADHD, ASD, or other forms of neurodiversity either individually or within your relationship and finding that differences in communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, or daily routines are creating frustration, overwhelm, or a sense of being misunderstood. Add in the demands of parenting, caregiving, grief, or major life transitions, and it can feel even harder to stay connected to yourself and the people you love.

I work with couples, individuals, and families in Ottawa and the surrounding area, offering both in-person and virtual therapy. A key focus of my work is supporting couples who feel stuck in repeating cycles of miscommunication, conflict, emotional distance, or disconnection, even when there is care and commitment underneath. I also work with individuals and couples navigating ADHD, ASD, and neurodiversity, particularly where differences in communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory needs, or daily routines are impacting connection, increasing overwhelm, or creating patterns of misunderstanding and frustration.

Alongside this, I support clients navigating attachment wounds, betrayal and infidelity, intimacy concerns, grief and loss, burnout, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, boundary struggles, and major life transitions, including the added pressures of parenting or caring for aging family members.

My goal is to create a space where you can slow things down, feel supported, and better understand what is happening beneath the surface of these challenges. Together, we identify the patterns contributing to disconnection within yourself and your relationships, rebuild communication, strengthen emotional safety, and create more secure, meaningful ways of relating so you can express your needs more clearly, respond with greater empathy, and experience deeper connection.

My approach is collaborative, warm, neuro-affirming, and trauma-informed, drawing from evidenced-based modalities. I aim to support both insight and practical change so that therapy feels meaningful in everyday life, not just in session.

Whether we are working on couples therapy, family dynamics, or individual challenges, my goal is to help you feel less alone in what you are carrying and more supported in moving toward clarity, connection, and change.

A Bit About Me

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors going for walks or biking in my neighbourhood. I also value quiet time at home with my cats, Arya and Dakota, often relaxing while watching a new show. I enjoy exploring thrift stores and flea markets, and I have a growing interest in vintage clothing and vinyl records.

Music is also a big part of my life. While I cannot sing, I make up for it by listening often and enjoying everything from classic rock and country to the occasional metal and punk.

Life has a way of shaping us through experiences that can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from who we are. Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relational struggles can quietly shape the stories we tell ourselves—about our worth, our relationships, and what we believe is possible.

You don’t have to carry these stories alone. In therapy, we work collaboratively to explore your experiences with curiosity and compassion, creating space to better understand what has shaped you and how it may still be influencing your present. I draw on narrative, psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and person-centred approaches to support deeper self-understanding, emotional awareness, and meaningful change.

I work relationally and transparently, offering warmth, authenticity, and thoughtful reflection. Our work may involve exploring past experiences and relational patterns, developing greater emotional insight, and strengthening your sense of agency and self-trust. Together, we work to reconnect you with your inner strengths and to re-author stories that feel more aligned with who you truly are.

I believe meaningful change happens within a safe, authentic therapeutic relationship. Therapy doesn’t need to be perfect or polished—you don’t need the “right” words or a clear plan. Just showing up is enough. My goal is to help you feel deeply heard, understood, and supported as you move toward change that feels authentic and sustainable.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck—overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by past experiences, or unsure how to move forward in life or relationships. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many people reach a point where they know something needs to change but aren’t sure where to begin.

As a Registered Psychotherapist since 2017, I bring years of experience providing counselling and crisis intervention across diverse settings—including community agencies, schools, and telephonic EAP services. If you’re ready to begin the process of understanding yourself more deeply and creating meaningful change, I’d be honoured to support you on that journey. I offer free phone or video consultations to help determine whether working together feels like a good fit.
